Atlanta Football Classic
Woke up this morning to the sounds of the O. Perry Walker High School Marching Band (New Orleans, LA) blasting Al Jarreau’s “Black and Blues”. It’s a popular song for down south show-style marching bands and it can only mean one thing… It’s football season. We’re here this weekend covering the 100 Black Men of Atlanta‘s annual Atlanta Football Classic [ http://www.atlantafootballclassic.com ] for the first time and kicking off HLC’s Black College Project with the Jags and Rattlers. The O.P. Walker H.S. band was one of about fifteen who marched past our hotel, the Glenn [ www.glennhotel.com ] here on Spring Street in downtown Atlanta as a part of the ATL Classic Parade. The Atlanta Football Classic between the Southern University Jaguars and the Florida A&M Rattlers starts in a few hours and you can feel the excitement in the air. HLC will be there all day capturing video and stills of the “classic” atmosphere that is Black College Football.
Aaron: I hit the streets early this morning trying to track down a … let’s say MUCH NEEDED package from back home in Jackson. All is well. After a 3 mile round trip walk, I have what I need. The road crew for this trip consist of myself, Chris and Jer’Maine. Say wassup to those guys on their page. There is no shortage of orange, green, blue and gold around Atlanta today with all the FAMU/SU fans in town for the game.
We’ll be back!
